DAY 1: CASABLANCA ⇢ ARRIVAL AND CITY TOUR
Your 9-day Moroccan adventure kicks off upon your arrival in Casablanca, where our welcoming team will meet you. Your first introduction to the country is a city tour highlighting the spectacular Hassan II Mosque, an architectural marvel and one of the largest mosques on the planet. Afterward, take time to explore the energetic streets of the city, soak up the coastal atmosphere, and sample some authentic local cuisine before checking into your accommodation to rest up for the journey ahead.
DAY 2: CASABLANCA ⇢ RABAT ⇢ CHEFCHAOUEN
Following breakfast, you will head to Morocco’s capital, Rabat. Here, you will uncover rich historical treasures such as the towering Hassan Tower and the beautifully preserved Kasbah of the Udayas. After taking in the capital’s sights, the drive continues northward into the Rif Mountains until you reach Chefchaouen. DAY 4: CHEFCHAOUEN ⇢ VOLUBILIS ⇢ MEKNES ⇢ FES
After breakfast at your Riad, you will bid farewell to the Rif Mountains and drive through picturesque countryside landscapes. Your first stop is Volubilis, a 3rd-century ancient Roman city. Stroll among well-preserved mosaics and towering pillars as you learn about the area’s fascinating Roman history. Next, you will continue to the 17th-century imperial city of Meknes. Following lunch, you will explore the city’s medina, marvel at the intricately carved Bab el Mansour gate, and visit the sacred Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. By late afternoon, you will arrive in Fes to relax and spend the night in a traditional Riad.
DAY 5: GUIDED TOUR OF FES
Get ready to dive deep into the cultural heart of Morocco with a full-day guided tour of Fes. Known for its intense religious and historical significance, the city is a treasure trove of heritage. Begin at the shining golden doors of the Royal Palace before stepping into the labyrinthine, UNESCO-listed Medina. Your local guide will lead you to iconic sites including the Al-Qarawiyyin University, Al-Attarine Madrasa, Nejjarine Fountain, and the vibrant Chouara Tanneries. Later, you’ll explore the historic Jewish quarter (the Mellah) and climb to an ancient hilltop fortress for sweeping panoramic views of the entire sprawling city. Return to your Riad for the evening.
DAY 6: FES ⇢ IFRANE ⇢ MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ ZIZ VALLEY ⇢ MERZOUGA DESERT
Departing Fes in the morning, the scenery shifts dramatically as you head south. Enjoy a short break in Ifrane, often dubbed the “Switzerland of Morocco” for its alpine architecture. Continuing through the Middle Atlas Mountains, you will stop in a dense cedar forest to observe wild Barbary apes in their natural environment. After a lunch break, the route descends into the spectacular Ziz Valley, an immense oasis of lush palm groves. By afternoon, you will reach the edge of the Sahara. Switch to camels for a mesmerizing trek across the Erg Chebbi dunes, pausing at a high vantage point to witness a breathtaking desert sunset. Arrive at your luxury desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a private en-suite tent, a traditional dinner, and an evening of Berber drumming around the campfire beneath a blanket of stars.
DAY 7: FULL DAY TO EXPLORE THE MERZOUGA DESERT
Wake up early to catch the spectacular Saharan sunrise painting the dunes in vibrant colors. After a hearty breakfast, return to the village of Merzouga by camel or 4×4 to begin your desert exploration. Your first stop is Khamlia, a village inhabited by people of Sub-Saharan descent who will treat you to an authentic performance of their traditional Gnawa music. Next, travel off-road to M’Fis to see the abandoned galena mines, once used to harvest the mineral for kohl makeup. Later, you will visit a nomadic Berber family living in traditional woven tents near the dunes, sharing a cup of tea while learning about their ancient, off-grid way of life. After lunch, head to a beautiful local Riad where you can cool off in the swimming pool. In the late afternoon, opt for an adventurous quad biking or buggy ride, or simply stroll the dunes. Dinner and overnight at the Riad.
DAY 8: MERZOUGA DESERT ⇢ RISSANI ⇢ TODRA GORGE ⇢ DADES GORGE
After breakfast, depart the desert and head west. Depending on the day of the week (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), you will stop to experience the bustling, traditional souk of Rissani. The journey then takes you to the magnificent Todra Gorge, where you can take a leisurely walk beside the river, flanked by massive vertical limestone cliffs that attract rock climbers from around the world. In the afternoon, continue your scenic drive into the Dades Valley. Prepare to be amazed by the unusual “monkey fingers” rock formations and sweeping panoramic viewpoints of the winding canyon. Enjoy a restful dinner and overnight stay at a comfortable hotel in the Dades Gorge.
DAY 9: DADES GORGE ⇢ OUARZAZATE ⇢ AIT BEN HADDOU ⇢ HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS ⇢ MARRAKECH
The final day of your journey begins with a drive to Ouarzazate, famously known as the “Hollywood of Africa” and the “Gateway to the Desert.” Here, you have the option to visit the Atlas Studios, Morocco’s largest film studio, to see sets from famous cinematic productions. From there, it’s a short drive to the iconic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This incredibly preserved, UNESCO-listed fortified village has served as the backdrop for blockbusters like “Gladiator” and “Lawrence of Arabia.” Take your time wandering its ancient, earthen alleys. After lunch, embark on the breathtaking drive over the High Atlas Mountains, crossing the winding Tizi n’Tichka pass. You will arrive in Marrakech by the late afternoon, where your driver will drop you off, marking the end of your incredible 9-day itinerary.
