HIGHLIGHTS
Tour ITINERARY
DAY 1: FES → IFRANE → MIDDLE ATLAS MOUNTAINS → ZIZ VALLEY → MERZOUGA
Your adventure begins with an 8:00 AM pick-up from your Fes accommodation. The drive takes you south, making an initial stop in Ifrane to enjoy a morning coffee in a town famous for its alpine architecture. Shortly after, you will visit the sprawling cedar forests of Azrou for a chance to observe the native Barbary apes in their natural habitat. The route then climbs over the Middle Atlas Mountains toward Midelt—known as Morocco’s apple capital—where you will stop for a relaxing lunch.
In the afternoon, the landscape dramatically shifts as you cross the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass (the “she-camel pass”) and descend into the breathtaking Ziz Valley. We will make several stops to photograph this massive oasis dotted with palm groves and traditional villages. By late afternoon, you will arrive in Merzouga, where your guide and camels will be waiting. Leave the vehicle behind as you embark on a camel trek across the towering Erg Chebbi dunes, pausing on a high ridge to watch a vibrant orange sunset. Upon arriving at your luxury desert camp, you will be treated to a delicious dinner followed by live Berber drumming around a cozy campfire beneath a starlit sky.
DAY 2: MERZOUGA → RISSANI → ERFOUD → ZIZ VALLEY → FES
We highly recommend waking up early today to witness a quiet, spectacular sunrise illuminating the Sahara dunes. After a hearty and tasty breakfast at your luxury camp, you will ride your camel (or take a 4×4) back to Merzouga to meet your driver. The return journey begins with a stop in Rissani, the historical foundation of Morocco’s current ruling family. If traveling on a Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday, you will have time to wander through its bustling, traditional Moroccan market.
From there, you will travel through the fossil-rich town of Erfoud, eventually retracing your path along the magnificent Ziz Valley and back over the Middle Atlas Mountains. Enjoy the shifting scenery before arriving back in Fes in the evening, where your driver will drop you off directly at your riad or hotel.
Paying for your tour is straightforward. A small upfront deposit is required at the time of booking to secure your spot — this can be sent via PayPal, bank transfer, or Wise. The outstanding balance is then settled directly with your driver or guide on the first day of your trip, accepted in euros, US dollars, or Moroccan dirhams.
Morocco’s official currency is the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). While major hotels and larger establishments tend to accept credit cards, smaller markets and towns generally operate on a cash-only basis, so it’s advisable to carry local currency.
