HIGHLIGHTS
Tour ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → OUARZAZATE
Your 4-day desert adventure begins with an early pick-up from the airport or your accommodation in Marrakech. We set out toward the magnificent High Atlas Mountains, navigating the winding roads of the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Along the way, we will make regular stops to enjoy panoramic views of the breathtaking landscapes and traditional Berber villages.
Our journey continues to the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a beautifully preserved fortified village recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic kasbah is widely celebrated for its appearances in major films such as Gladiator, Alexander, and The Mummy, as well as hit TV series like Game of Thrones. After exploring the ancient clay alleys, we will head to Ouarzazate, often referred to as “The Gate of the Desert,” where you will enjoy dinner and spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
DAY 2: OUARZAZATE → DRAA VALLEY → MERZOUGA DESERT → LUXURY DESERT CAMP
Following breakfast, we dedicate the morning to exploring the cinematic city of Ouarzazate. We will first visit the renowned Atlas Studios, where various famous movies were shot, followed by a visit to the Taourirt Kasbah, an ancient and impressive fortified mud castle. We then depart towards Agdz, joining the path of the Draa Valley, the longest river in Morocco. As we drive along the valley, we will pause for panoramic views of its sprawling palm tree groves, spectacular kasbahs, and vibrant Berber villages. You will have free time for lunch in the towns of Nkob or Alnif.
After lunch, our journey continues through Rissani until we reach the Sahara desert of Merzouga. Upon arriving at the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, you will leave the vehicle behind and switch to camels to cross the desert. A special stop will be made on top of a large dune to observe a magical desert sunset. You will then arrive at your luxury desert camp, which perfectly combines the charm of traditional nomadic tents with the high-end amenities of a hotel. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner and listen to rhythmic Berber drum music while dancing around the campfire under an open sky of shiny stars. Overnight stay in the camp.
DAY 3: MERZOUGA SAHARA → RISSANI → ERFOUD → TODRA GORGES → DADES VALLEY (5 HOURS DRIVE)
Wake up early in the morning to contemplate a beautiful, serene sunrise in the middle of the desert. After enjoying some free time for breakfast at the camp, you will return on camels to Merzouga where your driver awaits. We leave the desert behind to visit the town of Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalet. Rissani remains a major trading center in the region, featuring a large, lively souk that is particularly bustling on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.
After a stroll through the Rissani Souk, we continue to Erfoud to visit one of the local workshops showcasing the region’s unique fossilized marble. We then drive through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad to reach the awe-inspiring Todra Gorges. Here, the course of the Todra River has carved out a grand canyon through the mountains, creating high, red cliff-sided walls that are an ideal destination for rock climbers. You will have free time to wander in the gorges, appreciate the beauty of the landscape, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we continue through Boumalne Dades into the Dades Valley, with inevitable stops to photograph the fascinating “monkey fingers” rock formations and a panoramic viewpoint atop a mountain overlooking the valley. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel.
DAY 4: DADES VALLEY → ROSE VALLEY → SKOURA → OUARZAZATE → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → MARRAKECH
On the final day of your 4-day desert tour, we head to Kelaa M’Gouna to visit the famous Rose Valley. This region holds an annual Rose Festival in May, and year-round, locals offer an array of wonderful rose products, from perfumes and pure rose water to essential oils and cosmetics. Continuing our drive along the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs,” we will stop to admire the historic Amridil Kasbah, which is beautifully surrounded by the extensive palm groves of the Skoura oasis.
We then reach Ouarzazate, where you will have free time to enjoy lunch in town. Afterward, we begin our return journey to Marrakech, ascending once again through the spectacular scenery of the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Finally, we will drop you off at your accommodation or the airport in Marrakech, typically concluding the tour in the late afternoon or early evening. End of the tour.
