Tour ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → OUARZAZATE
Your 5-day journey begins with a morning pick-up from your riad or hotel in Marrakech. As we depart the bustling city, you will be treated to sweeping, breathtaking views as we ascend into the High Atlas Mountains. Along this scenic route, we will make several stops to photograph the stunning landscape before arriving at the historic Telouet Kasbah, once the powerful palatial stronghold of the El Glaoui family.
Around midday, we arrive at the legendary Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. Here, you will have time for lunch before exploring this enchanting, UNESCO-protected fortified village, famously used as a filming location for epics like The Mummy, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones. Afterward, the drive continues to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” You can opt to visit the renowned Atlas Studios or explore the Taourirt Kasbah, another stunning architectural marvel of the region. The day concludes with a transfer to your hotel for dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.
DAY 2: OUARZAZATE → SKOURA → KELAAT M’GOUNA → BOU THARAR → DADES VALLEY
Begin your day with a delightful breakfast before we set off toward Skoura, a massive, lush oasis sheltering over 4,000 hectares of date palms. Once a crucial stopover for ancient trading caravans, Skoura is home to the magnificent Amridil Kasbah, which offers a fascinating glimpse into 17th-century Kasbah life. The route then leads into Kelaat M’Gouna, the heart of the fragrant Rose Valley, which blossoms spectacularly during the spring.
Leaving the Rose Valley behind, we journey through charming Berber villages toward Bou Tharar. Here, the adventure shifts off-road as we navigate toward the Dades Valley. A special highlight of today’s route is stopping to visit a nomadic Berber family residing in a mountain cave, where you will be welcomed with a warm cup of mint tea and learn about their traditional way of life. Upon reaching the Dades Valley, you will check into your hotel. You can spend the late afternoon relaxing or embark on a guided hike through the mesmerizing Monkey Fingers Canyon. Dinner and overnight at your Dades Valley hotel.
DAY 3: DADES VALLEY → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we continue our exciting journey toward the Sahara. Our first major stop is the spectacular Todra Canyon, where sheer limestone cliffs rise dramatically above the riverbed. You will have time to take a leisurely walk through the gorge and admire panoramic views of the lush Tinghir palm oasis.
In the afternoon, the landscape transforms as we approach the Merzouga desert. Upon arrival, a camel caravan will be waiting to take you on an authentic trek through the rolling sand dunes. You will pause atop a high dune to witness a magical Saharan sunset before continuing to your luxury desert camp. You will be warmly welcomed with tea and escorted to your private, fully equipped tent. After a delightful dinner, gather around the glowing campfire to listen to traditional Berber drum music under a canopy of countless stars.
DAY 4: MERZOUGA DESERT EXPLORATION
We highly recommend waking up early to witness the sun rising brilliantly over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After a tasty breakfast at the camp, prepare for a thrilling, full-day off-road exploration of the Merzouga region.
Your adventure begins in Khamlia, a vibrant village renowned for its soul-stirring Gnawa music, a cultural tradition maintained by locals with roots in sub-Saharan Africa. From there, we drive off-road to the abandoned village of M’Fis, famous for its historic galena mines. You will then venture deeper into the arid landscape to visit a nomadic family living in traditional tents near the dunes, experiencing their renowned hospitality and gaining insight into their enduring lifestyle. Following lunch, we will head to a beautiful, comfortable riad offering incredible views of the golden dunes. You can spend the afternoon relaxing by the pool or take a short walk into the sand for another mesmerizing sunset. Dinner and overnight at the riad (or a second night at the camp, depending on your preference).
DAY 5: MERZOUGA DESERT → ZIZ VALLEY → IFRANE → FES
Today offers a final opportunity to wake early and watch the magnificent desert sunrise directly from your charming riad. After a hearty breakfast, we bid farewell to the dunes and begin our journey north toward the imperial city of Fes.
The drive provides a dramatic shift in scenery. We will make several stops at remarkable destinations, starting with a panoramic overlook of the immense, palm-filled Ziz Valley. As we climb into the Middle Atlas Mountains, we will stop in a sprawling cedar forest near Azrou, where you may spot wild Barbary macaques swinging through the trees. The next stop is the picturesque town of Ifrane, celebrated for its alpine architecture and often referred to as the “Switzerland of Morocco.” You will arrive in Fes by late afternoon, where your driver will drop you off at your hotel or riad, concluding your unforgettable 5-day off-the-beaten-path adventure.
