Tour ITINERARY

DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU → DADES VALLEY

Your 3-day desert adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech. We set off toward the High Atlas Mountains, ascending through the winding and scenic roads of the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m). We will make several stops to photograph the sweeping mountain valleys and traditional Berber villages that cling to the hillsides.

By midday, we reach the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. This ancient, fortified mud-brick village is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage site and has served as the spectacular backdrop for epic films and shows like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. After a guided walk through its historic alleys and lunch at a local restaurant, we continue our drive through Ouarzazate and the Skoura palm oasis. We then pass through Kelaa M’Gouna (the Rose Valley) before arriving in the Dades Valley in the late afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay at a comfortable, well-rated hotel or riad overlooking the valley.

DAY 2: DADES VALLEY → TODRA GORGE → ERFOUD → MERZOUGA DESERT

After breakfast at your hotel, we drive further east toward the Sahara. Our first major stop is the incredible Todra Gorge. Here, the Todra River has carved a massive canyon through the mountains, leaving behind sheer red limestone cliffs that tower above the valley floor. You will have time to take a peaceful walk alongside the river and admire the dramatic landscape.

The journey continues through the palm groves of Touroug and Tinjdad, with a stop for lunch along the way. In the afternoon, we pass through Erfoud, a town famous for its fossilized marble workshops, before the sweeping dunes of Merzouga finally appear on the horizon. Upon arrival, you will trade your vehicle for a camel. Led by an experienced guide, your camel caravan will trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes. You will pause on a high dune to watch the sunset over the Sahara before arriving at your luxury desert camp. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, followed by Berber drum music around the campfire and a night under the stars in your private, en-suite tent.

DAY 3: MERZOUGA DESERT → ALNIF → DRAA VALLEY → MARRAKECH

We highly recommend waking up early to witness the spectacular desert sunrise painting the dunes in vibrant shades of orange and gold. After a hearty breakfast at the luxury camp, you will gently ride your camel (or take a comfortable 4×4) back to Merzouga village to reunite with your driver.

Today involves a long but deeply scenic drive back to Marrakech. We take a different route for the return journey, traveling through the vast, arid landscapes of the pre-Sahara. We will pass through the towns of Rissani, Alnif, and Nkob, eventually reaching the magnificent Draa Valley—Morocco’s longest river valley, famous for its millions of date palms and ancient mud-brick kasbahs. We cross the Anti-Atlas mountains via the Tizi n’Tnifift pass to return to Ouarzazate for a lunch break. Finally, we make our last ascent over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, arriving back in Marrakech in the early evening. You will be dropped off at your riad or hotel. End of the tour.
