HIGHLIGHTS
Tour ITINERARY
DAY 1: MARRAKECH → HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS → AIT BEN HADDOU KASBAH → DADES GORGES
Your 4-day adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation. You will leave the city and ascend into the High Atlas Mountains, driving past traditional Berber villages and stopping at panoramic viewpoints to photograph the exquisite mountain vistas.
You will then arrive at the famous Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987, this ancient fortified village has served as the spectacular filming location for numerous movies and series, including Gladiator, Prince of Persia, O Clone, and Game of Thrones. After enjoying lunch in the area, the journey continues through Ouarzazate and the fragrant Valley of Roses. Finally, you will reach the Dades Gorges, where you can marvel at the fascinating “monkey toes” rock formations before checking into your accommodation for the night.
DAY 2: DADES GORGES → TODRA GORGE → MERZOUGA DESERT
After a delicious breakfast, you will travel along the Todra River, winding past lush palm groves and traditional Berber villages, until you reach the Todra Gorge in Tinghir. Take time to stroll through one of the most spectacular and dramatic canyons in the world.
Continuing the drive toward the Merzouga desert, your guide will offer an optional stop at a traditional Berber cooperative. Here, you can learn about local culture, take free photos wearing traditional Berber attire, and purchase desert essentials like scarves if you wish (completely optional). Upon your arrival at the Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga, you will trade your vehicle for a camel. Ride into the vast sandy landscape, try your hand at sandboarding, and watch a vibrant sunset over the dunes. You will spend the night in a premium luxury desert camp, enjoying a flavorful dinner and experiencing the enchanting atmosphere of the Sahara under the stars.
DAY 3: FULL DAY TO EXPLORE THE SAHARA DESERT
An early morning wake-up is highly recommended to witness a glorious sunrise from the peak of a nearby dune. After a hearty breakfast at the camp, you will embark on a comprehensive 4×4 exploration of the Merzouga desert.
Your off-road adventure takes you beyond the dunes to visit a local family of Berber nomads. You will learn about their rich heritage and how they sustain their traditional lifestyle in this remote environment. The excursion also includes a visit to the abandoned village of Mefis, an opportunity to listen to live, rhythmic Gnawa music in the village of Khamlia, and a stop at the seasonal Lake of Birds (if water levels permit). After lunch, you will be taken to a beautiful local riad. The afternoon is yours to relax, check in, take a refreshing swim, or simply stroll near the dunes. Dinner will be served in the evening, followed by a comfortable overnight stay at the riad (with the option to sleep at the desert camp again if requested).
DAY 4: MERZOUGA → ZIZ VALLEY → IFRANE → FES
Following a tasty breakfast at your riad, you will begin the northbound journey toward Fes. The first major highlight of the day is a panoramic stop overlooking the spectacular Ziz Valley, a massive canyon densely packed with lush palm trees.
The route then climbs into the Middle Atlas Mountains. You will stop for lunch in Midelt or another scenic spot along the way. As you travel through the majestic cedar forests, keep an eye out for the wild Barbary apes (macaques) that inhabit the area. You will also take a relaxing break in the alpine town of Ifrane, renowned for its European-style architecture, before completing the final leg of the drive. Your 4-day tour concludes with a drop-off at your riad or hotel in Fes. End of the tour.
